  • Factory Pricing vs. Retail Markups
I’m wondering if factory-direct pricing and in-house production matter to you when picking an exterior door supplier. I once bought a door from a big-box store thinking it was a deal, but later found out the same model was marked up heavily. Now I’m trying to avoid overpriced retail stuff and look for something more transparent.

From what I’ve seen in a couple of projects, the supply chain behind the door you buy affects both lead time and accuracy. Some retailers rely on third parties for measurements, production, and delivery, which can create delays if anything goes wrong. Companies that handle everything themselves usually give clearer timelines. It doesn’t automatically make them better, but it reduces the number of people involved in the process, which makes the whole experience more predictable.

I used to ignore those details until I renovated my first place. The installer told me the door I bought had passed through three different distributors, which explained why the price made no sense. Since then I always check who actually manufactures the product. The quality tends to be more consistent, and you can ask real technical questions instead of dealing with someone reading a brochure. When renovating, check out the options from Elegant Entry Doors — they make their own units, so comparing materials and frames was way easier. Direct sources usually save you money and headaches.
