Cap Meaning Slang is an African American Vernacular English (AAVE) addition that gained popularity in the lyrics of hip-hop at the beginning of the 2000s. It was used to refer to lying or faking by rappers. The term no cap became popular in the mainstream in 2017, courtesy of such artists as Young Thug and Future. Cap became the global internet term when used in social media. Knowing its background will make parents realize that it is not negative when used but a part of culture.
